Musk and his cult of personality annoy me to no end, and I deeply enjoy laughing at Tesla’s foibles now that they extend to having office interns turning wrenches in a tent, but even I think “hack”—which primarily describes a lack of originality or ingenuity—is perhaps the single least plausible insult.

But I think you’re giving him too much credit. It just seems like Musk is coming up with the “idea,” and then telling a bunch of engineers to figure it out. Like the center/only vent on the 3. The engineers thought he was nuts, and it took a shit ton of ingenuity from his team to figure it out.
I’m going to give a guy like Piëch more credit as an idea man before Musk because Piëch actually contributed to his company before he became Supreme Chancellor of VAG. So that guy had the engineering prowess to tell his engineers to build a car that goes 262 mph.

To be fair, every innovation starts with an idea. I’m no fan of Musk’s personality cult (or him as a person, but I can’t say I’m qualified to judge).
But often times it’s a ruthless nutcase with a single-minded vision that gets something amazing done.

I can’t hate him because he still employs engineers in this country. I’ve repeatedly considered working for one of his companies, but until recently didn’t live close enough to seriously consider it.

But he hasn’t shown us anything to back up his “ideas.” I have crazy fucking ideas, but I don’t have a cult following. My point with Piëch was that the dude was a bonafide engineer who came up with Quattro and started Audi off dominating rally.
Musk has just had crazy ideas and has used his billions to hire talent who can try to bring his vision to light. I’m sorry, but I don’t think people should be kissing his feet over that.

“fix the Tesla remotely” thing that avoids having to bring the car in much of the time like it would for most other car makers? And know about how can do BEVs like no other company because of key battery tech and battery manufacturing decisions?
